Featured Poet: Gary Beck

We recently had the opportunity to interview Gary Beck about his creative process and body of work.

Congratulations on the publication of your new book Collected Essays of Gary Beck!  Can you describe your creative process?

I currently work on a novel and poetry collection daily. I also send out books, poetry, short stories, plays to various publishers. 

What does your workspace look like?

I generally work on the couch in my living room. 

What is your motivation for writing?

The need to communicate with people at large my concerns for the state of the world.

How did you become a writer? 

I started writing poetry at the age of 16. I became a theater director then started writing plays. Other genres followed. 

Has the coronavirus pandemic changed how you approach your craft? 

Not to my craft, but to my concerns with the present administration that is not protecting the nation. 

What does literary success look like to you? 

Lots of readers enjoying my books.
