Do you have a favorite notepad? Lined, grid, blank, spiral, big, small? What do you look for?
I do it’s one that has butterflies on it. It’s lined and has quotes on the top of each page. I actually have several copies of it because I found them on sale at Marshalls and fell in love with the small sayings it had. But I usually have my phone notepad and whenever I have a saying or poem I need to write I’ll write it on the note pad there.
How long have you been writing?
My passion for poetry truly started when I was diagnosed with Vitiligo and anxiety. It began as an outlet for me to cope with what I was going through but through this journey I’ve discovered a passion and love for poetry. It’s been the most rewarding thing seeing people repost and connect to what I do as a hobby.
What are your goals as a writer?
I hope I can continue to connect with people around the world through my poetry and publish at least one book to have as a reminder of my writing journey. Overall I just want people to find some type of connection to at least one poem I’ve written.
Any accomplishments you’d like to share?
Yes getting my poem published through you guys has been the biggest highlight for me as an upcoming poet. I wasn’t open about my poetry and only my closest friends and family knew about my hobby. When I got published I cried from how much I felt I had accomplished in that moment. It’s an indescribable feeling to have something you wrote put into a physical form along with other amazing poets. So thank you from the bottom of my heart.
What are you looking forward to?
I’m looking forward to a lot of things but the main one is to keep growing and to encourage other writers that even though it does get tough at times to not give up. Poetry is a self discovering journey. It’s helped me discover that I can see things in a more vivid and metaphorical way. When I’m upset or just lost I turn to writing to let go of a lot of build up emotions. It’s an outlet so let it all out. Some poems may not connect to everyone but when you get that one person who connects to it it’s such a wondrous moment.
Any tips for aspiring poets?
Find a place you enjoy writing where your creativity will flow. Sometimes it can even be loud or it can be quite. You’ll find it in the corners of rooms or your car. Sometimes you’ll find it in the tears you’ve shed or the hugs you’ve embraced. It’ll be by the shore as the waves kiss your toes or even in the rain running down your windowsill. Writing is about connections through you and the world around don’t ever let anyone make you feel like it’s not worth it.
