Featured Poet: Joanne F. Blake

Joanne F. Blake is a caregiver, writer, wife, mother and terrific glam-ma. She recently wrote her first children’s book, E’Moree The Bully Proof Kid. We had the opportunity to interview her about her creative process and upcoming work.

What inspired you to write a book on bullying?

I decided to write a book on bullying, to better help my 6 year old grandson understand what bullying was, and that he should never be the giver or taker.

How did your grandson enjoy your book?

My grandson loves the book. He's the main character and it has a rap verse that goes along with it.

What does your writing space look like?

My writing space is really anything I can get my hands on when I'm inspired to write. I do keep a journal and pen on my nightstand, and of course my phone stays at hand.

What does being a writer mean to you?

Being a writer is a gift for me. I'm not skilled, or I've never taken any classes. God gave me a gift that I need to share.

Why do you write?

I write hoping my words or experiences can encourage, uplift, or inspire others. I'm just thankful to have words and thoughts to share with the world.

Does poetry or story writing bring you more joy?

I really enjoy writing poetry. I like the different forms of poetry, and I'm always up for new challenges.

Where can readers find more of your work?

My work can always be found on Instagram @joannethepoetess, Facebook @joannesQuotes, and of course @train_river_publishing
