Featured Poet: Tony Serrano

tony serrano is the poet behind Love•Hate•Heal and shared his advice with us in A Poet’s Toolbox. We were delighted to share his insight and are excited to share more about his approach to the craft.

What is your favorite kind of candle?

I don’t have a favorite candle because I rotate them often. I tend to go with whatever is in season. For instance, in the Spring/Summer I gravitate more towards mountain air or rainy weathered types of candles. In the fall a crisp fall night air or something simple like Egyptian cotton will do. And obviously frosted fir for the winter holidays.

Any recommendations?

Right now I’m really connecting with Yankee Candle and their Enchanted Moon fragranced wax melts. It lifts up my spirit as soon as it kicks in.

How long have you been writing?

I’ve been writing for as long as I can remember but it’s taken me up until about a year ago to realize what I would like to do with it. I would write as a way to vent. Sometimes I would try to put myself in other situations to maybe understand what others go through. It’s my own way of truly feeling a moment and possibly even testing myself.

Any accomplishments you’d like to share?

Not really unless you count me finally taking a dive and putting my poetry out to the world. I’m very new to this and I can feel myself getting better every week. I learn from everyone I follow. This is a very humbling practice.

What are you looking forward to?

The short answer to this question is 1k followers! The long answer to this is possibly being published. It’s exciting to think one day I could be in an actual book. One that I can hold, smell, and show to the people I love. Even greater than that would be to have my own published piece. With my mind set those dreams don’t seem too far out of reach.
