David McIntyre is a published poet and was featured in A Poet’s Toolbox. We were delighted to share his insight and are excited to share more about his approach to the craft.
How long have you been writing?
I have been writing in some form since I was a teenager. First it was songs when I was in a band with some of my good friends when we were at school together, then I went on to university to study filmmaking and screen writing (I enjoyed this very much), and for the past two years I have began writing poetry and short fiction.
What is your favorite pen? Do you have a pad recommendation?
My favourite pen is the one I'm using right now, a Sharpie art pen in black. What I like about it most is the fine point and how quickly the ink dries, it works really well with my handwriting! I'd recommend a classic Moleskine. My primary notebook is my red Moleskine - but any pad is a good pad, even if I don't like it as much when they are lined.
Any accomplishments you’d like to share?
I think the best accomplishment in writing is sitting in front of a blank page and making something appear on it. It's always nice when people enjoy the work, but if it's never started then it couldn't exist.
What are you looking forward to?
Right now, I'm looking forward to writing during the free time that has unfortunately came to many of us during the current pandemic. I'm looking forward to use this time to work on some short stories and a novel I have been planning for some time now. I'm looking forward to seeing how the artists, writers, and musicians of the world will respond to the uncertainty that has landed on our doorstep. I look forward to being able to be in groups again, in person, to talk about what we did during isolation. -
Where can readers find more of your work?
Most of my writing that is online is in the form of poetry on my Instagram page @sisterkind I will also have a website coming in the near future.
